Watanabe Nason is pleased to announce that John Wehrli has joined Jones Day in San Diego. Wehrli was a partner with Latham & Watkins where he practiced for 13 years.
Wehrli’s practice focuses exclusively on the lead representation of biotechnology, pharmaceutical, biosimilars, renewables, and medical device companies, with particular focus on structuring and negotiating complex “bet-the-company” intellectual property global strategic transactions including strategic alliances, joint ventures, spin-outs and strategic M&A transactions. He also represents buyers, sellers, investment banks, private equity firms, venture capital firms and other financial institutions as strategic advisor and lead IP counsel in connection with performing business, scientific, and intellectual property due diligence for private and public financings and mergers & acquisitions of life science companies.
Wehrli has represented over 200 life science companies in a variety of areas in addition to intellectual property transactions, including patent prosecution, patent litigation, mergers and acquisitions, food and drug law, corporate securities and public and private financings. He has also handled over 63 life science M&A transactions valued at over US$56 billion including asset purchases, tender offers, stock mergers, forced divestitures and leveraged buyouts.
Clients have included Eli-Lilly, Genentech, Takeda, Chugai, Kyowa-Hakko, Nycomed, Allergan, Boehringer-Ingelheim, Impax, Intuitive Surgical, Accuray, Beckman-Coulter, Geron, Plexxikon, Kythera, Alios Biopharma and Epirus.
